Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Thanks to the collaboration of our teachers and staff, the efforts of students and the support of parents, the work of this school year can be started smoothly. I would like to give a special thanks to our parents for your support and active participation in school events such as Parents and Teachers Joining Hands and Astronomy Learning Activities. Your involvement shows the importance of home-school cooperation. Let’s work closely together to nurture the next generation. Our school has implemented ability grouping in Chinese and English subjects in P.4 to P.6 since this academic year and we have gained positive feedback from both students and parents. We will review students’ learning progress regularly to enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning.
On our school webpage, eClass is an intranet platform for self-directed learning. Our teachers will upload different resources for students to do self-learning and enhance their learning effectiveness. While Learning Centre and Subject Corners are popular areas among students, parents can make use of the e-notice function to sign school notices and check account balances. They can also save the e-notices as pdf files in their mobile phone so that they can check them anytime they want. I would like to thank parents for your support in the use of e-notices as this method is environmental friendly, and helps reduce the use of paper and teachers’ time for handling these matters.
The Sports Day will be held at Hammer Hill Road Sports Ground on 4th October. It is a meaningful learning experience where our students can learn sportsmanship, striving towards goals, following the rules of competition, unleashing potential and displaying perseverance. Since it is a school learning activity, arrangements for parent spectators will not be made. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.
Students, do you still remember that at the opening ceremony, I have shared a story about a running race in a PE lesson with you? God gives each one different talents and traits, so we must make good use of our strengths and strive for progress through continuous learning. As the Bible says, “That the fellowship of thy faith may become effectual, in the knowledge of every good thing which is in you, unto Christ” (Philemon 1:6). Let us appreciate and cheer up everyone around us with caring and encouraging attitudes. In the awards ceremony, let’s thank all the people or groups who have helped us with gratitude and applause. We should appreciate the winners and share their joy!
In October, we can see theme parks advertising about Halloween activities. In fact, in the eighth century, the Pope established 1st November as All Saints' Day dedicated to the saints of the church. Nowadays most people celebrate on 31st October, which is the eve of All Saints Day and known as Halloween. It is a day which renders messages of death and fear. With the aim of spreading the word of God and serving the community, our school does not encourage students to engage in activities associated with Halloween. We want to teach our children good values and I therefore encourage you to not allow your children to participate in activities related to Halloween. We should work closely together to curb negative influences and protect our next generation.
The PTA Annual Meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on 17th October (Thursday). All parents are cordially invited to attend and participate in parent-school cooperation. The P.5-P.6 Parents’ Day will also take place on the same day. We have invited the principal of The Church of Christ in China Ming Kei College, Dr Eddy Lee to give a talk on “Preparing Children for Secondary School Selection” and we are looking forward to meeting you. This year, our school’s major concerns are strengthening reading culture and positive education. We should allow children to accumulate more positive experiences and enhance their resilience. Let us work together to foster a positive and happy learning environment for our children. Finally, let us be encouraged by a Bible verse: “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; in thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” (Psalm 16:11). Let us trust Jesus Christ, love others as ourselves and receive the grace of the Lord.
