Dear Parents/Guardians,

The new school year begins! I wish you all the best! Welcome back to our Kei Tsz family and a warm welcome to our new students. Kei Tsz Primary School is a loving and caring Christian school which allows students to learn in a pleasant and stable environment. We will continue to uphold the spirit of professionalism, observe and pay attention to different situations, care for students’ needs and nurture them.

Students, have you enjoyed this long vacation and completed the “My Summer Self-directed Learning Programme”? In this programme, the summer holiday workbooks have been replaced by our school-based learning booklets. These consist of interesting topics that allow students to reflect upon their daily experiences. In addition, the programme allows students to express their thoughts and ideas in various ways using sounds, pictures and videos. As a result, students’ creative thinking and self-directed learning ability can be cultivated.

During the summer holiday, a number of renovation projects and facility upgrades were implemented like renovating the exterior walls, purchasing a large number of books, cleaning all air-conditioners and upgrading the WiFi network. All of these upgrades aim to provide students with a pleasant and safe learning environment. We are also thankful for your support during the school walk-a-thon and it is your generosity that provides us with more resources to construct a better learning environment.

Last school year, our results for Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA) was quite good, which is the result of the joint efforts of our teachers, students and parents. In order to further improve teaching and learning, P.4 to P.6 students will be divided into groups according to their learning ability in the Chinese and English lessons this school year. By doing so, learner diversity can be reduced and the learning progress can be more appropriate for students. Besides, our school plans to collaborate with the Department of Education of Hong Kong Baptist University and introduce the "phenomenon-based learning". This has recently been adopted by Finnish primary schools. It’s mainly used in P.3 and P.4 General Studies lessons to enhance students' interest and effectiveness of learning.

Thanks to our Lord, with the increasing resources, there are some new teachers joining us this school year and our team is growing. With different expertise and professional skills of our teachers, more diversified learning activities can be conducted to enrich our students’ school life. I would like to thank our teachers for their commitment and parents for your support and trust in the school. Let’s continue to work together and witness our children growing happily.

Students, have you set goals for the new school year and been a child that God is pleased with? In fact, you can start with developing some good habits like going to bed and waking up early, being punctual and responsible, respecting each other and handing in homework on time. As the Bible says, “The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.” (Proverbs 13:4). Also, you should be confident and believe in yourself so that you can have the courage to overcome any difficulties. “Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13-14).

Our school will continue the ‘Sunshine Calls’ scheme and the class teachers will contact the parents so as to gain a better understanding of students’ behaviour at home and share experiences from parenting. You are greatly welcome to raise any questions during these conversations. The Astronomy Learning Activities will be held on 6th September (Friday) this year. There are a lot of fun activities, including the most popular “Gigantic Cardboard Maze”, Interactive Floor game, MiP robots, and snowy moon cake making. We look forward to your participation. ‘Parents and Teachers Joining Hands’ is going to be held on Mondays starting from 9th September. Also, there will be a bible study group for parents on Wednesday mornings starting 18th September. Your participation is highly welcome.

Our major concerns in the coming three years are to “establish a positive campus and cultivate students with positive values and attitudes” and “strengthen the reading culture and cultivate students’ self-directed learning skills”. We are committed to promoting positive education and reading. Students can know more about themselves and live a happy and positive life through the formal and non-formal curriculum. Also, parts of the Charges and Fees for Specific Purposes have been used to employ a library assistant, who will help promote reading at school. We hope that students can develop a positive reading attitude, strengthen their self-learning ability and establish good reading habits.

Our primary two student, Li Ngai Ting, Aidan, who suffered from an unusual cancer "Diffuse Marrow Involvement in Metastatic Osteosarcoma" and went to the United States for medical treatment, entered fully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on 12th August, 2019. Aidan’ mum has posted to express her gratitude to the community for their support and encouragement. On behalf of our teachers, students, parents and staff, I would like to express our deep and heartfelt condolences to the sorrowing family and join in their prayers for the deceased. May the Lord Almighty take the departed soul to her Heavenly Abode and give the entire family strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss.

Sincerely,

Chiu Kit Wa
