The ‘Parents-Also-Appreciate-Teachers and Parent-Child Cooking Competition’ was successfully completed on 21st June. The event provided a good opportunity for parents, teachers and students to gather and enjoy a meal. The tables were full of delicacies. Ranging from the names of the dishes, decoration to the ingredients, parents have put a lot of effort in preparing the food, showing their love to school. I would like to express my gratitude to the PTA for coordinating the event and also to those parents and students who participated. Our teachers can definitely feel your love and care.
Learning should not be bounded by textbooks, but can also be acquired through participating in different activities. Therefore, our school have organized various outdoor learning activities and visits to allow students to connect their learning with daily life. In addition to organizing the STEM Day which allows children to develop their interest in science and enhance their spirit of inquiry through brainstorming and hands-on experiments, some project learning activities were also carried out. For instance, the theme for Primary one project learning is "Animal Magnifying Glass" in which students identify different animals’ features, growth process and habits. Their problem-solving ability is also enhanced through collaboration.
The summer vacation is coming. Our school will continue to implement the school-based ‘My Summer Self-directed Learning Programme’, which allows students to set their own learning goals and learning styles, and learn to plan their own learning and life. Teachers have designed diversified topics for students to develop creativity and problem-solving skills. I hope students will enjoy this unique assignment. In addition to many interesting elements, ‘My Summer Self-directed Learning Programme’ also contains a lot of information about playgrounds and museums. Children not only can learn to communicate and get on well with others, but also can acquire some new skills through having fun and visits. Parents should make good use of this vacation to bring your children to join some outdoors activities, see some exhibitions, cook with them at home, or even have a parent-child competition. Spending more time to chat and play with your children instead of just arranging summer courses or tutorial classes for them.
P.6 students, you are going to graduate soon. I would like to share two tips with you- ‘dream’ and ‘belief’. When you go to secondary school, I hope you can make progress towards your dreams, stick to your belief at the same time and become a persevering and confident person. As the Bible says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9). Let us be strong and courageous, obey the words of God, experience His power and entrust everything to Him.
This year, $310 was collected to pay for the fees for specific purposes, which are mainly used for employing an assistant librarian, who assists implementing the school-based reading programme and activities. Our school library has collaborated with different subject panels in carrying out the cross-curricular book recommendation, setting up the reading corners on LG2 and the fourth floor, purchasing readers and magazines and increasing the number of books. In order to provide students with a better learning environment, the screens and projectors in the classrooms will be gradually replaced. The touch-sensitive interactive whiteboards will also be installed to enhance interaction and e-learning.
The school year is about to end. The graduation ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on 6th July (Saturday). P.6 parents are invited to attend and give encouragement to the students. Finally, I would like to share a scripture with you, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; don’t rely on your own intelligence. Know him in all your paths, and he will keep your ways straight." (Proverbs 3:5-6).
