The new school year begins! I wish you health and may the grace of the Lord be with your spirit. Welcome back to our Kei Tsz family and a warm welcome to our new students. Kei Tsz Primary School is a loving and caring Christian school which allows students to learn in a pleasant and stable environment. We will continue to uphold the spirit of professionalism, observe and pay attention to different situations, care for students’ needs and nurture them.
Thanks to our Lord, the outbreaks in Hong Kong have shown signs of ebbing and our school can arrange students to return to campus on a half-day basis. It is most pleasing that we can meet each other again and share what we have experienced during the summer holiday. We have worn masks for almost two years and experienced class suspension and online lessons. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to our Parent-Teacher Association and parents for their continued support and understanding. They have helped students to adapt to various learning modes. Also, we would like to thank our teachers and social workers. They are always caring, aid in guiding the students to help and care for others actively and prepare them to face challenges. Thank you for following COVID-19 control measures, staying healthy and peaceful by the grace of God.
Our school has made thorough preparation for the new school year during the summer holiday. We have strived to provide a safe and hygienic learning environment for our students. We have applied Palcoat anti-microbial coating in different areas in the campus, including public areas, classrooms, special rooms and washrooms in the fight against the pandemic. All air conditioners have been completely washed. Our school also provides transparent plastic desk shields, hand sanitizers and tissues to safeguard the health of teachers and students.
As the incredible Tokyo 2020 Olympics games ended, apart from sending our sincere congratulations to Hong Kong athletes for gaining the best-ever Olympic results, are you aware of the inspiring story behind every medal? Do you know the advantages of doing exercise? Amika Singh and her research team from Vrije University Amsterdam found that the relationship between physical activities and academic performance has a strong positive correlation. Doing exercise promotes brain function, stimulates the growth and connection of nerve cells and increases brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) that improves memory and make predictions. Moreover, physical activity releases happy hormones, for example, endorphin and dopamine that help us to become happier, improve memory and concentration. University of Bath found that school team members who had intensive training demonstrated the quality of self-discipline, wisely use of time, capable to cope with stressful situations, good communication skills and team spirit. Children who love exercising are happier, healthier and talented. Therefore, our school not only pursuits the enhancement of students’ academic performance but also the implementation of the “STARS Programme” scheme that aims to elevate students’ physical performance and cultivate the value of perseverance.
Students, have you set goals for the new school year and been a child that God is pleased with? In fact, you can start with developing some good habits like going to bed and waking up early, being punctual and responsible, respecting each other and handing in homework on time. As the Bible says, “The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.” (Proverbs 13:4). Also, you should be confident and believe in yourself so that you can have the courage to overcome any difficulties. “Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13-14).
“To improve the learning, teaching, evaluation strategies and to enhance students’ learning effectiveness” and “To bring positive energy into life and to live a positive life” are the two major concerns of this school year. The two key concerns are set for the sake of increasing students’ learning motivation and self-directed learning ability. It is hoped that every student understands his or her strengths through regular curriculum or extra-curriculum and live a happy and fulfilling life. Mid-Autumn Festival is around the corner. It is a precious time for families to gather and celebrate. I wish you good health and success. “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” (Corinthians 13:13) I hope students will obey the words of God, be strong and courageous and live a colourful life.
