Dear Parents/Guardians,

Thanks to the guidance and the blessings received from the Lord, the work of our school year started smoothly despite the difficult time of the pandemic. Because of the COVID-19 outbreak in Hong Kong and the related disease prevention measures, some major school events have been changed. Take the Astronomy Study Evening as an example. It was altered to Chinese Culture Day. Through Ebooks, videos and booths, students learnt about the cultural background and knowledge behind Mid-Autumn Festival. Students, have you attempted to vibrate the ears of Chinese sprouting bowls? Have you succeeded in producing some vibrations forming beautiful waves and the flash of water drops? The physical techniques of the Chinese sprouting bowls demonstrate the profound Chinese ancient science and technology! Apart from that, have you succeeded in guessing the answers of the riddles? Have you used the "AR app" to learn about astronomy? Have you made lanterns successfully? I think everyone was immersed in learning and had an unforgettable day.

Regarding COVID-19 prevention measures, our school replaced Sports Day with "Sports Fun Day". Its aim was to introduce a wide variety of sporting experiences in different forms, such as Molkky, Spikeball, Dodgebee, Kimball, Floor Curling, Pickleball, football, fancy rope skipping, rock climbing and basketball. Students had their first taste of various new sports items and learnt how to cooperate in a team and solve problems. I would like to express my gratitude to our elected Parent-teacher association committees for their support and active participation in school events. Your involvement shows the importance of home-school cooperation.

The growth of children is supported by parents' unconditional love. Parents usually teach their children the values of sharing from a small age. Meanwhile, we need to foster the value of gratitude as well. The first step of showing gratitude is to express thankfulness for the help from parents and family. For example, family members help students to carry their school bags back to school every day. Did the child say thank you? Nowadays, Children are overwhelmed by the love and care received from others. Parents and senior members of their family serve them well and support them with everything they need. It may lead to spoiled, selfish children who only care about themselves and seldom care about others' feelings. As time goes by, they may regard others' efforts as necessary and may not express gratitude to others. Thus, we should guide our children to be always grateful, thoughtful and caring. We need to teach them to think from others' perspectives and see things from different angles. As a result, gratitude leads to positivity in life. For example, parents can guide their children to think of ways to be grateful for before sleeping or writing cards to express their thankfulness to people around them. When expressing gratitude becomes a habit, children will be more aware of their surroundings, able to cherish, serve and enjoy their fruitful life. As the Bible says, "give thanks in all circumstances; For this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus" (Thessalonians 5:18).

In October, we can see theme parks advertising Halloween activities. Halloween is not about funny activities. In fact, in the eighth century, the Pope established 1st November as All Saints' Day dedicated to the Saint's of the church. Nowadays most people celebrate on 31st October, which is the eve of All Saints Day and known as Halloween. It is a day that renders messages of death and fear. To spread the word of God and serve the community, our school does not encourage students to engage in activities associated with Halloween. We want to teach our children good values and I, therefore, encourage you to not allow your children to participate in activities related to Halloween. We should work closely together to curb negative influences and protect our next generation.

The PTA Annual Meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on 15th October (Friday). All parents are cordially invited to attend and participate in parent-school cooperation. Also, the principal of C.C.C. Ming Yin College, Dr. Eddy Lee and the principal of C.C.C. Ming Kei College, Ms Cheung Pui Shan are invited to give a talk on "Preparing Children for Secondary School Selection". We look forward to meeting you. Moreover, the Parents and Teachers Joining Hands is held on Monday morning and Parent Fellowship is held every Thursday morning. We encourage parents' active participation and support.

“To Enhance teaching strategies and strengthen learning self-efficacy” and “To Unleash positive energy and become a positive happy person” are the two major concerns of the coming three school years. The two key concerns aim to cultivate positive values, facilitate students to understand their personalities, strengths and identify their potentials. Thus, students can a live happy and fulfilling life. Finally, let us be encouraged by a Bible verse. "If a child is trained up in the right way, even when he is old he will not be turned away from it" (Proverbs 22:6 ). Let us work together, embrace the same faith, witness and receive the love and grace of the Lord!

Sincerely,

Chiu Kit Wa
