Dear Parents/Guardians,

Students, do you still remember the Christian Worship and the sharing by the principal and teachers during morning assembly? What comes into your mind when thinking of “thanksgiving”? Have you expressed your thankfulness and blessing to people who serve us every day on Thanksgiving Day? Have you expressed your gratitude through sending a thankful card? Parents, how do you guide your children to think about the meaning of being thankful? The Bible teaches us, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds” (Hebrews 10:24). Let us rely on our faithful Lord, encourage each other and witness His love.

“Gratitude” is the crucial element of a fulfilling life. Nowadays, children receive unconditional love from others. Parents and relatives help them do everything and keep fulfilling their material needs. As a result, children may focus on their own needs and seldom care for others’ feelings. As time goes by, they will rely heavily on others, regarding others’ help as necessary and will not feel thankful at all. Teaching students to be grateful is vital. We should not look down upon the act of saying thank you. This simple reply fosters the value of gratitude. Children should learn to put themselves into others’ shoes, think more about others’ needs and feelings and consider different perspectives of things. They should not complain easily, but learn to be thoughtful and helpful, as well as to express their gratitude to others. Also, parents can reflect upon things that they are grateful for with their children so as to cultivate a habit of being grateful and bring positive energy into life.

Kei Tsz Primary School is a loving and caring school. We believe that when students grow up in a safe and loving learning environment, they will feel attached and loved which in turn will strengthen their learning motivation. Our first assessment has just ended and parents will receive students’ results soon. Let’s praise our children more in order to motivate them. We need to pay attention to our ways of praising. We should emphasize on the effort our students have made instead of focusing on their marks. We should give clear and specific feedback and comments about their improvements.

In light of COVID-19, some of the major school activities have been changed. Recently, the school picnic was cancelled. We understand that students looked forward to outdoor learning activities, thus our school strives to arrange a variety of learning activities. We hope that students can be exposed to diverse learning activities while following epidemic prevention measures. For example, P.5 students visited Hong Kong City Hall to learn about different instruments and styles of dance music. We have also arranged P.4 students to enjoy Chinese Music Concert: All about Chinese Musical Instruments – Bowed Strings, Plucked Strings, Winds & Percussion at Ko Shan Theatre. They can learn more about Chinese instruments and to appreciate the music they produce. We will continue to arrange various types of outdoor learning activities for different forms of students so as to broaden their horizons and enrich their learning experiences.

In December, you will find a variety of Christmas decorations in the campus. Christmas is a festival of expressing love and gratitude. Let us enjoy the festival and understand the true meaning of Christmas. I would like to share my favourite Christmas hymn called “Who is the Protagonist” with you. The lyrics remind us that Christmas is not about fictional characters, but to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. As it is written, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Jesus Christ was crucified for our sins on the cross and took our sins so that we could be saved from them. Through this, we can enjoy God's love and grace. Let’s celebrate Christmas by expressing our love and gratitude. Our school will hold a Christmas Worship and party in the morning of 17th December. Lastly, I would like to quote a Bible saying as a blessing to all of you, “But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that cause great joy for all the people. Today, in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11).

Sincerely,

Chiu Kit Wa
